Excerpts from Paladin’s Way ~ Alcine

This weeks excerpt.  Hope you enjoy it.

The thing about the volumes of the books of prophecies was that they were written by prophetic seers which would ordinarily be fine except there were none of them left alive to interpret the passages. They were not in any form of chronology that her scribes could detect. The passages were frequently rife with double meaning or no decipherable meaning at all. A fact that never failed to provide a sea of rage upon which Alcine floated like an island. The volumes had been in existence for thousands of years and some passages spoke in future tense of things already past. They were frustrating to no end. The other thing that frequently gave fuel to Alcine’s anger was that for any except a prophetic seer to interpret the prophecies in these volumes carried an unpleasant side effect of slow, yet ever increasing madness. It made for reluctant students of the volumes at best. One of her best interpreters was, as a matter of fact, recently beginning to think he was a banana tree.

Wish you well,

Lee and Cella

This week’s excerpt.  Enjoy.

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000030_00050]With his thirst slaked Gib rose to his feet to check out the area where the noises seemed to be coming from. As he drew nearer to the little pool the sound of playful laughter grew cleared and closer. Gib felt a strange pull toward the little area of calm water. He could see the reflections now, of the trees that surrounded the trail. With each step toward the still area of the stream he felt a peaceful lassitude settle like a warm cloak around him. He would just go to the edge and look into the water. He felt a certainty that if he did everything would all be alright again. There would a peaceful rest for him. Drawing closer and closer to the unmoving water he watched with a detached feeling as the waters turned so black they were mirror-like. Just a few steps now and he would see the answer.

It would be beautiful.

Gib was so focused on his wish to see the beautiful still pool he didn’t see the tawny form streaking straight at him from the tree line, muscles rippling as it closed the distance between them. It was low and fast and big.

If you’re seeing these I hope you enjoy these small appetizers.  Your comments are welcome.  Please feel free to share with any of your friends that love a good story.  I’m excited to be bringing this out.  It’s a big tale with huge characters.  I hope you come to love them as much as I do.

May you and yours be well this day.

Book 2 coming to Amazon this summer.  This week’s excerpt.  Enjoy!

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000030_00050]Rex froze and was staring directly at the opening. A low, menacing growl was coming from somewhere deep in the massive chest of the dog. His ears had flattened back against his head and a ridge was running from the nape of his neck to the end of his tail which was standing straight out behind him. Rex crouched, which made him look a little crablike and was moving sideways out of the direct line of the opening. Gib felt an undefinable awareness that made the hair prickle on the back of his neck. And try as he might he couldn’t tell what it was about this thing that was spooking him. He just had a feeling that there was something waiting behind that plane of light. It was huge and hungry. It could see them and it was waiting.

Patiently.

Had to share this. It’s good.

A Writer's Path

by Morgan S. Hazelwood

How Can I Be a Writer?

There are so many images of writers: smoking, coffee guzzling, depressed alcoholics pouring their hearts and souls into their words. Those grizzled, introverted men who know writing is their raison d’être*, their one, true calling!

I don’t look like that.

I don’t smoke, nor drink coffee**, and I rarely drink alcohol, even socially. I’m about as ungrizzled as a person can be***.

She sat like a soldier still on patrol. Relaxed by training but still coiled to respond to a threat with speed and decisiveness. It was in her eyes and it was unmistakable.
“You were a soldier?” He asked at last.
“Yes, For a time.” Was all she would say.
“It looks like you still are.”

The release is getting close for the second book in the Paladin’s Way series.  It’s been such a wonderful journey.  I’ve also had help from some super talented people that I hope to introduce at a later time.

I want to share some preview material so here’s the first installment.

Gib felt a slight itch in the center of his back and he knew the Marine in the Camos had already decided where to put the round from the M-16 if it became necessary. He carried it with a familiarity that came from a great deal of time with the weapon. Gib had seen in the young marine’s eyes that he might not want to shoot either of them, but if it came to it he would not hesitate. As much as Gib appreciated the young man’s sincerity, it didn’t do a thing to diminish the itch.

Divergence

roads” And both that morning equally lay

In leaves no step had trodden black.

Oh, I kept the first for another day!

Yet knowing how way leads on to way,

I doubted if I should ever come back”.

From The Road Not Taken, By Robert Frost.

It’s a fearful and wondrous thing how our lives are sometimes nudged by events and the actions of others to put us here.  Take the day and believe in something good.  Give life a chance and let yourself be amazing.

It’s there around the turn.  Just waiting.

Be well,

Lee
